GED, TASC, HiSET Schools and Testing Centers by State
Every article includes GED prep sites and testing centers in that state. Please choose your state, and you can discover all available GED classes in your area.
Not all states continued with the GED exam. Some states decided to change to the TASC, others opted for the HiSET.
There are also states that offer you a choice of these testing methods.
In the article about your state, you will find all the relevant details, and which exam is used in your state.
There are more than 25,000 schools listed on this website that offer GED (General Education Development) preparation.
We also provide free practice tests to help you get all set for the four subtests of the GED High School Equivalency exam real fast.
The GED exam
The four GED testing subject areas are Math (Mathematical Reasoning), Social Studies, Science, and English Literacy (Reasoning through Language Arts – including reading and writing). A lot of multiple choice questions have gone, and students’ writing skills are assessed through the required essay-style answers on the other four parts.
Although the GED exam has to be taken on a computer, it is not available online, but please be mindful of fraudulent websites that tell you they can offer the GED, TASC, or HiSET tests (or the diploma) online. These sites are run by scam artists only interested in stealing your money.
Documents obtained online have no value and will certainly not be accepted by schools or employers! In Early 2016, the passing score per sub-test was reduced from 150 to 145 (on a 100 – 200 scale) because studies had shown the bar was raised slightly too high.
Requirements
Requirements to pass the exam are increased, and this makes sense because a large portion of the population has gained a lot more knowledge thanks to the internet and other informative channels. You can also benefit from this website’s totally free online prep classes for the GED exam.
The advent of the Internet and the more widespread access to information has necessitated the GED exam to significantly lift the bar, and computer-based test exemplifies this fact. You will no longer have the opportunity to wing the test or make educated guesses because most of the multiple-choice questions are gone, and essay style answers are requested. Benefit also from our free services and resources: free GED video lessons and practice tests so you can earn your GED certificate fast.
The job market and the GED diploma

You may also use Twitter or Facebook to locate a prep center or testing site, or for more GED-related information. Check out this website’s main links that will direct you to our free resources.

GED Test – What New?
Just about every ten years we see an upgrade of the program to bring the GED test in line with expectations and requirements of industries and institutions of higher learning. We just now have witnessed the greatest modification to the test in its 70-year history.
In January 2014, the most significant overall change in the test’s progression took place, and the biggest change is that you no longer can take the test in paper-and-pencil format, everything needs to be done via a computer-based system. HiSET and TASC testing is available both on paper and on a computer in most states.
In the GED exam, technological advancements and other innovations were integrated to bring the exam up to par with Common Core Standards and the changed requirements and expectations of industry and colleges.
The latest edition of the GED test was introduced in January 2014, and some significant modifications were made. In case you are planning on taking the test soon you can find a lot of information on this website.
The GED exam is now completely computer-based and includes four subtests can be taken (and paid for) individually within a two-year period of time (in most states). The five TASC or HiSET subtests can also be taken separately. So now you know how to learn all about the GED Test by state!

In New York, you must be no younger than 18. For 16 and 17 year old’s special restrictions apply. Contact a testing center close to you.

GED (TASC) Price in New York
New York is one of only four states that completely subsidize the HSE (High School Equivalency) test for its residents. The five testing subject fields on the TASC exam are Literacy Writing, Literacy Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. The entire exam will take a little over 7.5 hours and is including a writing part, and TASC testing results are available two to five weeks after testing.
Not only is the TASC free in New York, but most prep facilities also offer classes at no cost. To pass the TASC test students must reach a score of at least 500 on each of the five subtests (Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies). Additionally, they must score at least two points (eight is possible) in their essay.

A few years ago, New York proudly introduced the TASC (Test AssessingSecondary Completion) to replace the completely rebuilt and now only in computer-format offered GED (General Education Development) exam. The TASC, just like the GED test, measures readiness for college and/or workforce as directed by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), a set of standards indicating what students must be taught at what grade level.
Applicants who successfully take the TASC exam receive a diploma that is regarded and accepted equivalent to a high school diploma by employers and admissions offices in colleges and universities. The TASC exam (like the former version of the GED exam) assesses these 5 subject areas: Language Arts: Reading- 75 minutes, Language Arts: Writing- 105 minutes, Mathematics- 105 minutes, Science- 85 minutes, and Social Studies- 75 minutes.
Pathways To Graduation
The GED Plus Program was changed into “Pathways to Graduation” (P2G) and this program is available to 17-21-year-olds. P2G is a great help to students who want to earn their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. It prepares them for college readiness and career options and offers them educative and social support. P2G is available at no cost and the program doesn’t have a minimum literacy requirement. So contact one of the sites listed above by email or phone and request some info about if your status allows you to participate in their adult education courses.

Job interview tips
How you dress for your job interview can create a bad or good first impression, so make sure that you do it right. It is strongly suggested to follow a certain type of dress code, you are going into a professional environment, not a party. You should wear a suit that is rather plainly colored, pressed and one that fits you well.
Limit the amount of jewelry that you are wearing, have your nails manicured and have your hair styled in a neat, simple way. You should try and keep any tattoos that you might have covered up and removed any unnatural looking piercings. Don’t forget to be carrying a professional briefcase with about 3 copies of your resume plus any suitable references. Experts suggest that you do a little research into the company that you are applying to, they will expect any candidates to be prepared and know their stuff.
Understand your attributes and even rehearse a little speech in front of the mirror, if you see the need to. Maintain eye contact during your interview and speak clearly, you want to appear confident. Don’t afraid to be a little pushy, make it clear how much you want the job. You might be wondering how you can be sure that these techniques are to be trusted?
You can be guaranteed that they are. Our experts are people who are amazing at what they do and have a great track record in helping people like you get the job they’ve always wanted in New York State.

It will also be easy to squeeze in the needed breaks to recharge your mind.
- Easy to take notes. When watching our video lessons, it will be easier for you to take notes. Taking notes is another technique that will help you remember what you studied. Medical Daily says that using pen and paper when taking notes helps boost memory. It also helps you better understand and recall concepts.
- Make studying easy and interesting with visuals.Visuals like graphics, maps, arrows, and other images and illustrations that support the text make the topic interesting and easy to understand. A Psychology Today article says the use of visuals in learning decreases the time you need to study, improves your understanding of the subject, and helps you retain information with less Mental Health Challenges.
7 Quick Study Tips to Help You Study for the GED Test Through Online Classes
Here are 7 more study tips to help you maximize learning through our online GED classes:
- Complete the study experience through reading. After watching the video lessons, it is best to follow it up with reading textbooks on the topics you have studied. Reading will give you a deeper understanding of the topic. Consequently, watching the video lessons will make it easier for you to understand the materials you will be reading.
- Assign a study area. Choose a study area for watching the video lessons. Ideally, the study area should be a calm and quiet place that’s free from distractions. Take your laptop or tablet with you to the local library, a park, or a quiet coffee shop.
- Don’t bring things that might distract you. Avoid taking with you things that might distract you while watching the video lessons. Don’t bring food with you. Turn your phones and phone notifications into silent mode. Also, sit up straight while studying. You might get tempted to view the lessons while lying down, but this position can make you feel sleepy. It also strains your eyes.
- Write down all important points. Using a real pen and paper, write down all the important points discussed in the video. Taking down notes not only helps boost memory, but it also saves time as you don’t have to watch the video again just to review the key points you need to learn.
- Take a break every 15 to 30 minutes. Don’t attempt to watch all videos in one sitting. Try to finish 2 to 3 videos at a time. This is because of your attention span, as well as your ability to remember information, decreases after 30 minutes. Ten-minute breaks to rest, stretch, walk or eat and drink will help you stay focused when it’s time to study.
- Have a review buddy. The great thing about attending online classes is you always have the choice to do it alone or with other people. Watch it with a friend or another test-taker. This will help you stick to your plan of preparing thoroughly for the GED test.
To help ensure that you understand everything you’ve learned, try teaching it to your review buddy. This is another tactic for retaining information quickly. - Test yourself. The best way to know whether you’ve prepared enough for the GED test is to test yourself. Test your knowledge and how much you have learned by taking our free GED practice test.
